Party time!

What's the first thing you want to do, once you've unpacked your boxes and settled into your new home?

Throw a house-warming party, that's what!

bottleWith that in mind, here are a few top tips on how to make sure your first party in your first home goes with a bang and not a whimper...

  • Don't forget to invite the neighbours!  It's a great way of meeting the people you'll be living next door to
  • Now is probably NOT the time to go desperately eco, unless you fancy masses and masses of washing up.  Paper plates and plastic glasses and cutlery might not look the most elegant, but they save on clearing up.  Plus, you're probably not going to have enough of the real thing anyway, unless you hire in
  • Don't be too proud to ask people to bring food and drink.  Lay on a good spread yourself, and then ask your friends and family to contribute their own favourites.  Most people like to bring something anyway
  • Don't ask too many people!  Have a good look around your new space and be honest about how many it can comfortably accommodate!
  • Have the party before you decorate!  That way, you won't be too horrified by the inevitable spillages
  • If you've got any outside space, use it!  A communal garden or roof terrace is a great venue for a party, and again, it's a good way of including your new neighbours in the celebrations.
  • Make sure you've got a good playlist!  Some of our favourites for getting a house-warming party grooving are:
    • Our House - Madness (of course!)
    • House of Fun - The Specials
    • Fight for Your Right to Party - Beastie Boys
    • Up All Night - Take That
    • Bootilicious - Destiny's Child
    • Firestarter - The Prodigy
    • I'm Not Okay - My Chemical Romance
    • Tubthumping - Chumbawumba
    • Basket Case - Green Day
Of course, your playlist might be vastly different to ours, so why don't you send it to us?  We'll publish the best ones on here.  Just email us at info@homefocusmagazine.co.uk
