Barratt Homes Work Towards A More Accessible Future At Site Visit With Whizz-Kidz

In a bid to make its sites more easily accessible for wheelchair users, leading housebuilder Barratt Homes is working closely with a disabled children’s charity at its development Highfields in Littleover.

The team at Barratt Homes North Midlands recently invited an ambassador from Whizz-Kidz, Penelope Harrison (15), to visit the site and advise them on how they can improve the layout and design of their developments and homes for disabled people.

They will now receive an assessment on the accessibility of the development and will work with parent company Barratt Developments on what can be done to enhance their sites in the future.

Whizz-Kidz provides disabled children with essential wheelchairs and other mobility equipment they need to lead fun and active childhoods.

Penelope, who sits on the board of Whizz-Kidz, said: “Like many young people my age, the prospect of beginning to climb the property ladder is extremely daunting; these negative feelings are further amplified by the fact that accessible housing is dreadfully difficult to come by. However, Barratt Homes have produced a solid base to build upon.

“The outdoor areas are near perfect and the company accepted all of my ideas for improvements with pristine grace.

“I would like to thank Barratt Developments once again for taking the initiative to invite me; it is a great pleasure to know that people with special needs are finally being thought of.” Barratt Homes Work Towards A More Accessible Future At Site Visit With Whizz-Kidz

Highfields, located on Rykneld Road, is currently providing a mix of two to four bedroom homes in the local area that suit a range of different homebuyers.

Penny was given a tour of the development and also got the opportunity to visit the onsite show homes to see first-hand a Barratt home.

Jan Ruston, Sales Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “We were delighted to welcome Penny to Highfields to provide us with some feedback on the accessibility of our sites.
“It is important for us to work closely with charities like Whizz-Kidz to ensure we are constantly improving our new homes sites and doing our upmost to make these more user friendly.”
