Smart home appliances have seen a huge rise in popularity in recent years, with devices such as smart meters receiving over 2,338 Google searches (UK) in the last 12 months.

The online smartphone retailer, e2save has delved into the ownership of smart home tech in the UK2, revealing which devices are most popular.

With an increasing focus on energy efficiency, it’s notable that smart energy meters are the number one appliance in the country, with the data showing an increase in ownership from 14% in 2018 to 17% in 2019*.

Other popular smart home appliances are smart washing machines/tumble dryers with a 16% ownership, fridge/freezers (16%) and microwaves (15%).

The three most important things to look for when looking to buy a home are said to be location, location, location. The reasons why you want to live in a particular location vary from person to person: close to work, close to transport, good school catchment areas, near family and friends, it’s the area I know, it’s trendy, up and coming, prices bound to go up in the next few years, handy restaurants, bars and coffee shops...you can add your own reasons why somewhere is the place you really want to live.

And if you’ve got enough money you can live there. But if you’re on a budget, then you’re stuck, having to buy where the developers and housing associations offering affordable homes have their new-build properties. Or do you?
