New research reveals the added costs that first time buyers may not have accounted for. After the deposit, searches and solicitor fees, property buyers spend an average of £10,743 on additional, essential costs such as buying furniture and upgrading their homes within the first five years of buying.

Surveying over 1,000 homeowners across the UK, online retailer Furniture Choice can reveal just how much buyers fork out on building work, decorating and furniture once they have purchased their property.

To understand this emerging trend, online furniture retailer Furniture Choice conducted a UK wide survey and spoke with individuals who have already bought a house with a friend.

The research from Furniture Choice found that a surprising number of people are thinking about buying a house with a friend; over a third (38%) of the UK would consider doing so, with the biggest motives being unable to afford a property by themselves (54%), as well as not having a partner to buy with (42%).
